About the class

E.A.S.T. stands for Environmental And Spatial Technology. In this class students use a variety of current technology to work together to solve problems in the community. There are four pillars, or foundations, in the class; Self Directed Learning, Community Service Projects, Advanced Applications, and Team Work.

Self Directed Learning- In EAST students learn to become responsible for their own learning. Knowledge is not something that the teacher gives to the students, but rather the students need to work to develop their own knowledge.

Community Service Projects- In EAST, students perform community service projects as an obviously relevant way to connect student learning with "the real world."

Advanced Applications- Students in EAST use current, up to date tools that are the same tools used by professionals in the workplace.

Team Work- Students in EAST learn to depend on each other. Being able to work in teams in vital in the 21st century workplace, and EAST students are prepared for this challenge.

About the teacher

I have been teaching in California public high schools for nearly 15 years, and I have been teaching Environmental and Spatial Technology in Stockton for more than 5 years. I came to Stockton from Southern California where I taught Graphic Arts at Pasadena High School. I also have worked for a number of years in private industry, so I am very familiar with the skills and abilities employers are looking for in their workforce.

I work very hard to make sure that the technology that my students are working with is not only current, but I try to provide students with cutting edge technology and a classroom environment that looks mors like a worklace than a high school classroom.

In 2006 I was chosen as one of the first Google Certified Teachers in the nation. Because this certification, I am able to work with some of the leading practitioners of educational technology across the nation, ensuring that the students at the Edward C. Merlo Institute of Environmental Technology have access to the very best in educational technology.
